Jeffrey R. Reed

Jeff Reed has been involved in the asphalt pavement and maintenance industry for more than 50 years.

He is currently Vice Chairman of the International Road Federation and a Board member of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. He is also the past Chairman of AEM and the California Asphalt Pavement Association.  

Jeff is a graduate of Gonzaga University in Washington, with both a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and an MBA. He is currently a member of Gonzaga’s Engineering Advisory Board and Chairman of the Board of Regents.

He has been president of VSS International since 1978. At that time VSS was strictly a Northern California Pavement Maintenance contracting company. Since then, the Company has added commercial asphalt terminals and emulsion plants throughout California and become a major slurry microsurfacing machine and emulsion plant manufacturer, and doing contracting and technology transfer in the 18 western states and 40 countries worldwide.

Jeff Reed is president of Reed Family Companies, formerly Basic Resources, Inc., based in Modesto, CA, the holding company owner of VSS International, George Reed, Inc. and seven other contracting and manufacturing firms with 900 employees doing $400+ million a year.

Jeff is a past president of the International Slurry Surfacing Association, Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association, the Rubber Pavements Association, and past Chairman of the Golden Empire Council of Boy Scouts. 

In his personal time, he enjoys beekeeping, hiking, and travel with his wife, Margaret and served as the Chairman of the Golden Empire Council of Boy Scouts. He is also a trustee for the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, CA.
